It’s not fair! On the most exhausting busy days, I have the most difficulty sleeping, even though I’m really tired. Is that true for you, too? I hear from lots of family caregivers and healthcare providers who tend to put everyone else’s needs first. I have found that before bedtime, you can improve the quality of your sleep by tending to your own needs for a change. Power down before sleep! Here are three steps you can follow.
Power down to sleep, Step 1
Replay, reflect, release
Take a few minutes to gently replay and reflect upon your day. Otherwise your mind might just decide to do that for you when you close your eyes and try to sleep.
Power down to sleep, Step 2
Lower your brain activity
Choose an activity that lower your brain activity and avoid things that raise your level of brain activity.
Power down to sleep, Step 3
Keep to your bedtime routine
Settle yourself with a familiar routine, and create a soft, comfortable environment for sleep
Try these three steps. They have helped me sleep, and I hope they will help you too!
In peace,
Gale
